Technology To Grow Trees
February 21st, 2007 — VyomaI had written earlier about how technology is going against nature in the particular case of Apple products. In view of that, I found Tree-Nation, courtesy of TechCrunch.

“Desertification is potentially the most threatening ecosystem change impacting livelihoods of the poor” (UNCCD). It is about land degradation caused by CLIMATE CHANGE and human-induced factors.
By planting a tree you will make a difference by helping to create a giant heart in Niger, the poorest country in the world, and one of the most affected by desertification.
The website - still in beta - lets one buy a tree that would be planted in a selected plot in an eco-park in Niger.
Tree-Nation is still not rolled out fully, and its intention in terms of for-profit or non-profit and others details are not yet known. But this website portrays the idea of how the internet technology enables people to contribute to the effort of saving nature.
This should at the very least, make us techno-lovers aware of the nature we live in and make us starting thinking in terms of saving nature too. This thought process need not necessarily mean abandoning the technologies - but we just need different approach that would enable us to use technology in harmony with nature.
What are your thoughts on this? Have you made an effort to conserve and grow the natural world?
