Quit school/job, start blogging?

I open my Thunderbird client today morning, and there was something there that made it feel like a history recap. It was about the choice between education and blogs.

It was a post by Amit Agarwal on his blog ‘Digital Inspiration’, which was followed up by some others. It took me some time reading through some of the comments left at his blog, to actually grasp the situation that the dramatization of the whole blogging phenomena has brought to today’s young people. It has been a choice of going ‘pro-blogger’, against the choice of obtaining education, against the choice of getting into jobs that run the world.

Before I utter anything else elaborately, I should make my self clear. It is an unintelligent choice to take blogging over education and other works.

To support this argument, I just have one thing to say. With out the knowledge you gain from education, how would you know how to present what they want to in their blog? Without the knowledge gained by experience in real jobs, how would you know what to blog about?

Of course, there are people who learn how to write and how to present their thoughts on a blog or other publication. There are people who blog about the news that is thrown around. Some of them have grown to a point where they are able to generate news. But these are just a small fraction of the many in the blogsphere.

But we just want only that many news broadcasters as bloggers out there. When I get the same news over and over again over my feeds, I tend to arbitrarily unsubscribe myself from some of them. I believe there are many out there who do the same choice, and if you happen to just blog about the news, would you risk being the ones unsubscribed? Could you afford it?

And as I said earlier, with out the knowledge of any domain, the one you gain out of your work or your passion, what would you blog about? Do you blog about blogging? Are there not enough similar blogs out there? Blog is just a medium for transfer of knowledge, and you need to have knowledge in something that you can transfer through your blog. Other wise, you will just be a relay station that broadcasts what others say.

So, do not quit school, do not quit your job. Both are valuable in their own terms.
