I earn the NaNoWriMo 2006 winners badge!

Here is a quick blog post on the results of my participation at NaNoWriMo that I had joined some time back and had started writing a novel at the beginning of November.

About 8 hours ago, I was able to finish my novel, reaching a word count of 50153 words. The deadline must have been crossed several minutes before and it was a close call for me.

Though I had done a good start, around the middle of the month, I was not able to write for more than a week. I was faced with a challenge of writing about 25 thousand words in the last four days. After sleepless nights and frustrated hours in front of my computer, I was able to make it.

The novel is in a state of draft now, that one of my cousin has offered to proof read. I will be polishing it to a finer state.

I am not sure if I will publish it or not - I am leaving the idea open.

Blogs in Enterprises

This post comes in continuation of the series of posts about blog - particularly the uses of blog. In the last post, I mulled over the use of blog as a online magazine. This time around, we will look at the different aspects of blogs in enterprises and companies.

Enterprises or companies, big or small, are gradually moving into the Web 2.0 scenario and are using blogs (and wiki) in basically to different perspectives - internal and out facing. The out facing blogs generally speak of the company and are handled by the PR department of the company. They educate the customers and readers on their new products and services, and provide a way of feedback for them. It is basically an extension of the web-presence of the company. The internal use of blogs are quite handful for an enterprise. The uses basically dwell on enterprise wide communication and collaboration, that provides a catalyst effect for all the employees to innovate.

Blog - as online magazine?

In my last post, I talked about what it takes to blog, and the different types of blogs. That led me into doing a bit of mining the web and I went through a couple of articles, that made me to look at Blog as a online magazine.

I will try to go over few things that would demand a discussion when the two - blogs and magazines - are put in one article :

  • Blogs and traditional publishing
  • Magazines venturing into online space
  • Blog as online magazine

What does it take to blog?

What is required of a blogger posting on an informative blog?  What is the level of experience required to make an interesting and worthwhile blog?

Ever since I came into Blogsphere about more than just a year back, it has been kind of love-hate relation ship.  It was due to several factors – mainly due to the mercurial nature of my plans as well as my life that did not allow me to stick to some plans.

But, as stated in my other post, I did stick around, and I am here.  Conversing with some of my friends, both online and offline, I happened to look at the various types of blogs around and discussed with them on what it took to write blogs.  What is required of the blogger other than a place to host and software to present it?

Lisensa - Online Copyright Transaction Service

Lisensa Logo

This post seemingly comes in the right moment, after the posts on copyright and creative commons licenses. I found out about Lisensa through the blog post by Darren Rowse.

Lisensa is a online copyright transaction service provider for content generated by people online. It presently provides the service for blogs and RSS/Atom feeds. It automates the process of transaction between the copyright holder and any tentative buyers who might want to use the content that has been copyrighted. It provides the service free of charge, but takes a cut of 10% from all the revenue generated through the transactions.

Spread Sheets - A tool to write novel?

Write
© Gego

I have been participating in NaNoWriMo and I have been using a handy technique to keep track of the plot. I am writing a fantasy fiction, and it involves a handful of characters. As some of you who have attempted or written a novel would understand that it can be quite cumbersome, because it becomes a bit hard to keep track of them, their motives, and all the plot scenes in general.
