Indian Government ‘Ban’ Blogger Hosted Blogs
July 20th, 2006 — VyomaUp until now, I had refrained from posting any of my political view, but I think I just have to do it this once.
In view of the recent Mumbai blasts, the Government of India has directed all ISP to ‘ban’ Blogger hosted sites and Geocities hosted sites.
The first time I got to know of this news, I felt this was outrageous, and any last bit of feeling of belonging I had for this piece of land seemed to diminish into oblivion.
There had been news that it is to curb the information from certain sites that the terrorists use to communicate.
But for heavens sake! Blocking the whole Blogger site? Of what use would it be. One can always use proxy to get to such a site. And I am sure the terrorists know that as well.
A more prudent approach would have been to contact the Google and Yahoo company and ask them to bring down such sites. That would have been a much better way to curb these sites.
And there has been voices that the Government people are not tech savy enough to understand that the Blogger sites can be accessed through proxies.
But ignorance is not an excuse. Who are we trusting ourself to be governed by? If they are not capable enough to handle it, I am sure they can find someone who is and consult them. No - they just have to do the things with their thick headedness.
Down with them, I say down with them. I know I am talking right out of my usual cool, but I do have the right to say it!
