What does it take to blog?

What is required of a blogger posting on an informative blog? What is the level of experience required to make an interesting and worthwhile blog?

Ever since I came into Blogsphere about more than just a year back, it has been kind of love-hate relation ship. It was due to several factors - mainly due to the mercurial nature of my plans as well as my life that did not allow me to stick to some plans.

But, as stated in my other post, I did stick around, and I am here. Conversing with some of my friends, both online and offline, I happened to look at the various types of blogs around and discussed with them on what it took to write blogs. What is required of the blogger other than a place to host and software to present it?

It mainly depends on the type of blog one runs. There are many blogs out there, which are just personal diaries containing posts over posts of rants and uninteresting details of someone's life charted with varying level of detail and anonymity. And still there are some that are nothing but junk, existing solely for the purpose of selling something.

And there are some that focus on a niche or a handful of niche and publish post over post of information that is nothing less than a goldmine to one pursuing knowledge in that niche. Also, there are few more that just report the happenings in the world about different topics - be it politics, technology, movies or gossip on actors and actresses.

To report on the happenings on various topics, one needs sources. It very much edges on to journalism and I think there is a raging conflict between the two factions - blogging and journalism. Keeping such blogs aside, we are left with informative blogs.

Informative blog, I believe is one of the most timeless of all the other types of blogs. Personal blogs are not of much interest to the whole world while the other 'junk' ones are not even worth talking about. Reporting or news type of blogs have their value, but the posts loose their value and become just archives once the time has passed.

On the other hand, informative blogs become repository of knowledge as the blogger goes on adding post after post to it. It is real hard for someone to become a professional blogger in this area because it takes a lot of expertise to become a credible blogger in terms of a niche topic. People can only gain experience by actually working on such situations - and I think once the blogging hype wears off, only the experience gained and recorded would hold true value.

Indeed a nice write-up. Wish you luck, for becoming a professional blogger, soon. And more than that, I wish if I myself could be of any help.
Get going buddy!!

Much as I wish to be a professional blogger, Rosalin, there is a long way to go. I think though I can become a quasi-pro-blogger. :)

I you had to judge my blog, what rating would you give it ?

Be frank!

If I had to judge your blog, what rating would I give?

OK. I will try to be as objective as possible.

It is not a personal blog and definitely a spam (junk) blog. So, I will give my rating (on a scale of 1 to 10) in two fronts - informative blog and news reporting kind of blog.

Tech-Buzz as an informative blog - Rating: 4/10
Tech-Buzz as a news reporting blog - Rating: 7/10

Bear in mind that when I say informative blog, it means that it has posts that have a considerable shelf life - they are useful even being in the archive. In this perspective, there are not many posts that has timelessness as a feature. There are very few posts that may be categorized as a tutorial, discussion, or pondering over a topic. So, it rates a bit low on that front.

On the other hand, I think Tech Buzz is a good news reporting blog with respect to Technology. You put in timely and quick posts about things happening around. Would have rated it with a few more points, if some more of your posts were arrived at from the original and unique sources and not happen to be just another blog in the blogsphere of your niche that has posts that are quite similar to the ones running on other blogs.

There, I think that was quite frank enough. ;)

Good work dude. But looking at the topic "what does it take to blog?" my first impression was that I would come to know about a few tips and tricks for good blogging. Was this not the intention of the post? The blog talks more about the type of blogs present.

Vinny, I was trying to show what is required in terms of knowledge for someone to blog - other than the obvious - blog host to put their posts. I think this is a very basic step, that many bloggers who jump into the boat do not realize before starting to blog.

As far as tips and tricks goes, I am sure a search on Google will give you many. I would like to point at Darren's ProBlogger that covers the topic of blogging in every possible angle.

May be, as I blog, I will put some posts on tricks and tips that I have found useful. For now, I am still in the 'drive behind the blog' or 'what is the blog about' phase.

Cool. The link sent by you looks very informative for beginners like me. Will go through the site and get more info on blogging. Thanks for the link.
Keep going with your posts. All the best.
